On Safety & Human Factors
CEO Petter Holst Johnson presents a Poster Talk on Barrier Management in High-Risk Industries
This year’s IADC ASIA Pacific Health, Safety, Environment & Training Conference and Exhibition took place in Bangkok on the 14-15 May, and brought together global industry leaders to address the pressing challenges and innovations shaping the future of safety and performance in drilling operations.
Presight contributed to this important conversation with our CEO, Petter Holst Johnson, presenting a Poster Talk focused on the critical role of human factors in barrier management. This is a subject gaining increasing attention in high-risk, high-complexity industries.

Human Factors: A Key to Reducing Major Accident Events
Studies show that around 92% of Major Accidents are linked to human factors. Yet, many companies struggle to effectively integrate these into their safety strategies. Drawing from customer feedback, Petter highlights several recurring pain points:
- Difficulty forecasting workloads and planning resources
- Misalignment between training, competencies, and technical requirements
- High costs and logistical challenges in deploying the right personnel offshore
- Fragmented data systems requiring manual, time-consuming input
These issues not only hinder operational efficiency but also increase risk exposure.

A Visual and Integrated Approach
Petter’s talk presents an integrated approach that combines human, organisational, and technical barriers into a comprehensive and visual framework. By breaking down silos and aligning competencies with regulatory and operational demands, this method enhances understanding of overall operational risk and enables proactive risk management.
Attendees also visited our stand where they were impressed with the integrated AI in our web based bowtie tool Presight OpenRisk which is part of our enterprise software Presight Barrier Management system. The AI builds bowtie’s for you and turns insights into practical strategies. In addition, it incorporated the role of human factors in your barrier strategy.
